The year 2020 was a year to remember, or not, with many challenges. We have adjusted by holding meetings via Zoom. Living through this pandemic has not been easy but nevertheless, we stayed connected and continued to meet via Zoom. This was one of the most important presidential elections in our lifetimes and we are all thrilled and relieved that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are our new President and Vice President after 4 long years of “45.” Senator Cory Booker and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman were reelected. Somerset County elected Paul Drake and Doug Singleterry as the 4th and 5th County Commissioners and our own Tina Jalloh as County Surrogate. We can proudly say that Franklin Township played a big role in turning Somerset County all blue.
The JFK Club, an arm of the Franklin Township and Somerset County Democratic Committees, is an active local Democratic organization which represents the democratic values of our large multi-ethnic and racially diverse Franklin Township community. Our membership continues to grow each year. Members may serve on the Executive Committee and there are numerous opportunities to be involved on committees, attend meetings and participate in activities. In 2020, we invited interesting speakers to our meetings from all over who have enlightened us with presentations on topics such as Covid-19 and vaccine updates, adult cannabis, how polls are conducted, the census, and the environment. We hosted candidates for office at the local, county and state levels as well as the Board of Education. Most important are our “get out the vote” (GOTV) work and doing what we can to elect endorsed Democrats by phone banking, texting, voter registration and canvassing.
The year 2021 will be very important as we look forward to municipal elections, county elections and the gubernatorial election. We will need everyone’s help in our efforts to GOTV.
Please consider joining the Franklin Township JFK Democratic Club. Dues are only $20 per person annually or $10 for students. You are always welcome to attend meetings before joining. We look forward to meeting you soon on Zoom!
